Subject:Thunder Bay State of Emergency Update
Time:09:27 pm
Thanks for the concern from everyone whose posted. Some of the rivers and lakes have receded slightly, however there's more rain forecasted for tonight and this coming weekend, so the city isn't out of danger yet. One of the local dams is threatening to break at some point today (In the small, outlying community of Stanley), and the roads to Kakabeka Falls are still completely washed away. The Ministry of Transportation is saying that it could take up to two weeks before the citizens of Kakabeka have the ability to leave.

The City of Thunder Bay itself seems to be reachable via land from Western Canada and Southern Ontario, however the main bypass through town (The Shabaqua Bypass as it's known to locals) was completely destroyed; Meaning that all traffic is being re-routed through the far north-end of town.

As promised, I found some information out about how you can help. The Red Cross has set up a reception centre at the Neebing Arena (Just outside city limits) and are working to help people find temporary accommodations; provide access to meals and transportation within the city. Local churches have also gone above and beyond their duties, and are providing food, clothing and shelter to those who require it.

If you're interested in donating, you can make donations through your local Red Cross organization, and specify that it is for the City of Thunder Bay, State of Emergency (Flooding) 2012. If memory serves correct, The Red Cross does provide tax receipts to those who make donations, so it can be a tax write off (For those who were concerned). I've attached some photo's to show the extent of the flooding. Please feel free to pass this around to your friends lists. Thunder Bay is my home currently, and it's just not right to see people suffering as much as some of them are. I know funds are limited for everyone, but even the smallest donation will help to change someone's life.

Subject:The one with the State of Emergency
Time:08:23 pm
So for those of you who don't follow me on Twitter or Facebook, this will be the first you're hearing of this (potentially). For the past week, much of Northern Ontario & Northern Minnesota has received a record amount of rainfall. When we were driving back from Minneapolis on Thursday night, many of the ditches/culverts along Highway 61 (from Duluth to Grand Portage, MN and even back into Canada) were close to cresting, and spilling onto the highway. In two cases, they had already began to, and in a third case, part of the highway had already been washed away, forcing ALL traffic up onto old Highway 61, north of Grand Marais.

There was some rather nasty weather again last night, and we received an astounding 78mil of rain (Specifically between 12am and 7am). The radio was talking about flooding within the city, and I honestly thought nothing of it until I was at work, and the city began to slowly shut down. Businesses closed, schools closed... We couldn't figure out why we had such a high traffic rate today (On a Monday of all days) until about 9:30 when the DJ on our local radio station announced it.

'The City of Thunder Bay is declaring a State of Emergency.'

Many of the rivers within the city have gone up as much as three feet since 5am this morning, and are showing no signs of slowing. Spillways have been opened, and the dams are open as much as they can be to prevent further flooding, however it's almost like the water is unstoppable. One of the floodways is about an hour from cresting, and there's quite literally nothing the city can do about it. This wasn't exactly preventable, and we didn't predict this would happen... One of the small communities (Kakabeka Falls) is currently landlocked. All access points to the small community are via bridges over the rivers (The Neebing River & Kaministiqua River), and the roads have been washed away. There's heavy damage to many other roads within city limits, and there's a threat of more rain tonight.

Many of these people have lost everything. I consider myself lucky, because I live in an area of town where the flooding was minimal. We're going to have extensive water damage to our rental unit, but compared to others, we've lucked out. Some people had upwards of 5 feet of water in their basements. Everything is gone.

I don't know what exactly can be done for these people who've lost everything. I'm just at a loss for words at how terrible this all is. Some people will never be able to replace what they've lost (photo's, memories, etc), and some will never recover from the financial burden they're about to incur to replace everything...

Subject:Friends Cut
Time:02:36 am
I've done a friends cut earlier tonight, and I suspect I'm not finished yet. I feel as if I've disconnected with some of the people I added through the last friending meme, and honestly, I don't feel like I ever really connected with most of the people I did add. That's not fair to anyone involved. I like to know my friends on LJ well enough to understand them as real friends, and with having an over abundance of people, it was just too hard to do.

That being said, if you feel like you were removed and it was premature, feel free to shoot me a message and I will gladly re-add you with the purpose of getting to know you better.

If you can't see THIS post, then you've been cut. I'm sorry, but please don't be offended. You deserve more than what I can give you <3

So, um hours later... I've done a friends cut. If you can't see this post, then I'm sorry but you've been cut. It's nothing personal to those who were cut from my list, I just felt like we didn't connection like I'd hoped to. It happens sometimes. If you feel that I've wrongly cut you, then please reply to this post and I'll gladly re-add you.

Subject:Tuesdays Child is full of disappointment...
Time:09:12 am
This is not a great way to start off a Tuesday.

I first read the article on Saturday when it was published and the title (to be fair and honest) did bother me a little. But, being curious, I decided to check it out anyway and see what it was about. It was an extremely long article surrounding two Toronto parents who have three children. Jazz, Kio and Storm. Both Jazz and Kio are given the opportunity to choose their own clothing (And subsequently wear whatever they choose), keep their hair as long as they want, etc.

Why? These parents want to raise their children to live in a genderless society.

Flash forward to four months ago when their youngest child, Storm, was born. Only a handful of people know what his/her gender is. Why? Because they want Storm be able to choose for himself/herself what gender he/she is. Kinda seems like a groundbreaking concept that a child isn't defined by what's between their legs (or isn't).

But apparently, this is wrong. In the aforementioned article at the top, there are a lot of angry, upset, and enraged people over this. People are crying foul, saying that C.A.S. should be called to take their children away from their parents, since they're living in a social experiment. Another person went on to state that these children are going to be so screwed up when they get older.

(I understand that this is clearly only a snippet of the comments and the people who've reacted negatively to this issue).

Explain to me how they're going to be screwed up? Explain to me how this is a social experiment? My god, I had honestly thought that society had progressed far enough along that we were starting to do away with the stereotypes inflicted on each gender. I was wrong apparently. So lets just go back and say that little boys should only play with GI Joe and action figures, while little girls have to wear pink, yellow or purple and play with dollies.

I know people who are raising their children to be accepting of ANYTHING. One particular example is an acquaintance's eldest son. He's four now and is allowed to choose his own clothing, play with the toys he wants, etc. Yes, there's ridicule surrounding him, and even her parenting skills (Because it's wrong to tell your four year old son that despite the fact that barbie is pretty, you have a penis and should not play with her... There's GI Joe, go play with him instead), but what's the problem?

I go back to what a said about a month and a half ago when I was being ridiculed for my weight, lack of degree, etc. Has this done something to offend you? Do you feel personally attacked by this? Why can't we all just grow up, move on and ACCEPT PEOPLE FOR WHO THEY ARE!?

(Sidenote: Shame on The Toronto Star for putting this family through hell by continuously posting this story and referring back to it. Had it been posted once, and then left to be, I'm sure the reaction wouldn't have been nearly as vicious).

Hey Guys,

So I did a fairly major friends cut today. Please don't take it personally. I removed most because they haven't updated their LJ's in months, and some who I feel we've just fallen out of touch. If you cannot see this post then you've been cut. If you feel that I shouldn't have cut you, please reply and I'll gladly reverse the cut.

Also, since my journal is friends only, if you don't contest the cut, it'd be much appreciated if you could also remove me from your friends list. Thanks <3

In honour of how shitty today's been (Guys, I'm legit allergic to VDay... I broke out into hives at work....), I stole this from katie087  and you're gonna LOVE it!

"I'm proposing that on Valentine's Day everyone posts pics of their favorite men and flood our flists with eye candy of the most meltable kind. Pitch it to your flists and just imagine that everywhere you turn gorgeous, interesting, beautiful, pretty, handsome men of all variety popping up. Women, too. Cos, gorgeous, interesting, beautiful, pretty and handsome is not gender specific.
There could be an implosion, but what a way to go.:D"

All hail the insanely beautiful!Collapse )

Thank you for taking the time to willing lend these find gentlemen your lady bits view! See you next year :D

I'm posting this with the intention of ACTUALLY getting it done (Yeah, I say that and we ALL know me... *sigh* Oh well, here goes).

I've ripped borrowed the idea from my lovely friend madkrazyghetto and hope to actually accomplish it this year!

What's this? The Twelve Days of Promptsmas!

The Twelve Days of Promptsmas will be running from December 14 through December 25.

All you need to do is pick which fandom I'll post on each day. Leave a comment with the date you'd like me to post on, and the fandom and characters of choice. Specificity is keen, too, just remember that it'll likely be short. (And just because of the seasonal timing doesn't mean the prompts have to be/will be holiday-related. That is totally up to the requester.) And, as always, be careful of spoilers.

If you're curious about my fandoms, here's the list:
TV: Rizolli & Isles, Covert Affairs, Dark Blue, Big Brother (11&12), House, Hawaii Five-0 (2010), Canada's Worst Driver, NCIS, NCIS:Los Angeles, Hellcats, Bones, The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory (Please note I've only gotten upto S3), Smallville, Supernatural, Power Rangers, Veronica Mars, ER

Movies: Pick a movie, I'll tell you if I've seen it (chances are that I have)
Books: The Hunger Games (1st book only), Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter series, *UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL I WRITE ANYTHING TWILIGHT RELATED - DO NOT ASK)

Video Games: Uncharted (1&2), Gears of War (series), Assassin's Creed, Legend of Zelda

Be prepared for me to link back to this post profusely!

December 20 - haltlos - One of the following (or more): ER - a slow Christmas morning in the ER (a little Ray/Neela would be awesome or the appearance of John Carter) - Bones - Hodgins first Christmas or any other holiday after his parents died (they should be dead because he's the last in line, y/y?) - NCIS - Where and how does Tony DiNozzo or Kate Todd spend Christmas? I'm praying it won't be a long one. I took my MacBook Pro power cord into campus tech yesterday because it hasn't been charging my Mac properly for probably six months. Turns out, the adapter is damaged. Their policy is that while they've got an order out for your new power cord, they keep your old one. So I'm without a decent amount of battery time (Since y'know I had 85% when I went in yesterday and they burned it down to 20% in under an hour... Thanks assholes), I'm not going to be reachable until Wednesday (At the latest hopefully)... All depends on when the roommate can get there to pick my cord up, since I work 9-5. Thankfully, the roommate has a MacBook Pro as well, so I'll be stealing her power cord to charge mine when she's home...

Also, for those who spoiled last night's Supernatural (Which I had actually planned on watching), you've been cut. Don't bother commenting to be re-added, because it won't happen.

So the cut is offically done. Yeah, like a week later. If you cannot see pink-thunder17.livejournal.com/208252.html that entry, then you have been cut. I apologize. It's nothing personal, I just have no time or energy to read every single entry anymore. I feel bad, I really do. Also, I feel like some of the people I have cut never comment on my entries or reply to my comments, so it was sadly time to go.

Things are alright, I guess. Work is draining.

The first weekend in June I went to Orillia, which was amazing. I had so much fun, and drank FAR too much, but it was worth it. The second weekend I went to a play with my friends from high school (really cool idea - The setting was the city backdrop and we walked the streets of Kitchener for it).

Last weekend I was up in Thunder Bay for the retirement dinner. I was asked to give a speech and present a gift on behalf of the students and the board, and it went over really well. I was extremely please with myself. We partied at Scuttlebutts on Saturday night (Saw over a dozen people that I knew) and flew back down on the Sunday morning.

I've been trying to catch up on life since then, but it hasn't been working so well lol. I finally felt 100% on Wednesday. This weekend I'm heading up to Toronto to go see Ally, Darin, Stu, Becky, Jacqui and Dave. Jacqui, Ally and i are going shopping Saturday and then going to Toronto Island (All banking on the G8/G20 shit not being a problem). And then home for family dinner on Sunday.

I get to go golfing with mom and her curling friends on Wednesday because of Canada Day the next day and then we're gonna play Innerkip on Thursday afternoon before I head back for work on Friday.

You know what? Fuck you. You don't even have the balls to give anyone fair warning that you're defending them? That's really nice. I hope a bus hits you.

So here's your fair warning. I'm cutting tomorrow, so today (Until 930pm tomorrow night) is the free day to cut me if you like. No hard feelings, just let me know you're doing it. Also, if you want to stay, let me know.

Dear Santa... Dear Santa, This year I've been busy! In January I committed genocide... Sorry about that, eilan (-5000 points). In February I pulled over and changed aldehyde 's flat tire (15 points). Last Thursday I gave veggie17 a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points). In September I helped dkpk1986 see the light (8 points). Last Tuesday I pushed ficsbykikos in the mud (-17 points). Overall, I've been naughty (-4944 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!

So if you're seeing this message, then you have either been de-friended (Don't take it personally, I didn't see any point in keeping a lot of inactive users on my friends page), or you you're lurking/possibly friending.

I have a few stipulations (I guess you'd call them that) about friending people (Don't worry, I'm a fairly easygoing person!) that I've put under the cut. If you have questions, just post them here :)

To those who think they may have been cut, I can assure you that you're probably safe :) If you think otherwise, comment :)

So you want to be my friend?! Srsly!Collapse )
